Hello! I’m Yasmin (Yasi)

Founder of Pottery Embassy, a pottery studio based in Blenheim CBD at Shop 11/1 Market Street.

Pottery Embassy was created to be a welcoming and creative space where people can slow down, learn pottery, and experience the joy of making with clay. From beginner wheel throwing classes and handbuilding workshops to paint-your-own ceramics and community events, the studio is designed to make pottery approachable for everyone.

Originally based in St Arnaud, I’ve spent a year and a half running pottery workshops throughout local and surrounding communities, particularly in smaller towns where creative opportunities can sometimes be limited. Through teaching and working with clay, I’ve seen how powerful pottery can be in helping people reconnect with themselves, build confidence, and create meaningful connections with others.

At Pottery Embassy, workshops are relaxed, beginner-friendly, and focused on enjoying the process just as much as the finished piece. Whether someone is trying pottery for the very first time or continuing their creative journey, my goal is to create a supportive and inspiring environment where people feel comfortable exploring creativity at their own pace.

Alongside studio classes, I remain passionate about bringing pottery experiences into community spaces across Marlborough, Tasman, and surrounding regions, helping make ceramics more accessible to a wider community. Thank you so much for taking the time to learn about Pottery Embassy. I’d love to welcome you into the studio sometime, so please feel free to pop by and say hello when you’re in the area!

Let's be honest: committing to a 5-week pottery course feels a lot like a marriage proposal to a hobby you haven't even met yet. If you have major creative commitment issues but still desperately want to give the wheel a go, welcome to Clay & Sip Friday.

Handbuilding is a relaxing and creative pottery technique where pieces are shaped by hand without using a pottery wheel.

Ceramic Care Tips

Washing

To help your handmade ceramics last for years to come, we recommend hand washing whenever possible. Wash gently using warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft cloth or sponge. Avoid abrasive scrubbers, harsh chemicals, or sudden temperature changes, as these may damage the glaze or weaken the pottery over time. While some ceramic pieces may be dishwasher safe, repeated dishwasher use can increase the risk of chipping and may dull the glaze. As each piece is handmade, slight variations and imperfections are part of its unique character and should be treated with care.

Transporting

Handmade ceramics are fragile and should be transported with care. When collecting or moving your pottery, wrap each piece individually using paper, bubble wrap, towels, or other soft padding. Avoid stacking pieces directly on top of one another, as pressure and movement can cause chips, cracks, or breakages. Place your ceramics in a sturdy box or container and ensure they are secure during transport to prevent shifting. Handles, rims, and thinner sections are particularly vulnerable and should be protected. Once your pottery leaves the studio, Pottery Embassy cannot be responsible for damage that occurs during transportation.

Most glazed ceramic pieces can be used in the microwave for reheating food and drinks. However, as handmade pottery varies in thickness and construction, pieces may heat unevenly or become hot during use. We recommend heating contents gradually and handling with care after microwaving.

Avoid exposing your pottery to sudden temperature changes, such as placing a cold ceramic piece directly into a microwave or adding boiling liquids to a cold vessel, as this may increase the risk of cracking due to thermal shock.

Always check the temperature of your pottery before handling and discontinue use if any cracks or damage develop.

What does a pottery journey brings?

A pottery journey is more than simply learning how to make ceramics — it’s an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with creativity, and experience the satisfaction of creating something by hand. Working with clay teaches patience, problem solving, and resilience. Over time, pottery can build confidence, encourage mindfulness, and create a sense of calm through repetition and focus. Each piece becomes part of the learning process, showing growth, progress, and personal expression along the way.

Pottery also creates connection — with ourselves, with others, and with the creative community around us. Whether you are throwing your very first bowl or refining your technique years later, the process of making with clay offers space to learn, reflect, and enjoy the simple pleasure of creating something meaningful with your hands.
